Caitlin Russi on creating a new piece: The Island
See an excerpt of The Island at Glade's February performances!
Caitlin explains how Glade has helped her choreograph her artistic ideas:
"Dancing with Glade has been, among other things, an exercise in finding comfort in what I thought I never would or could do.
As a former cheerleader and hip hop dancer, my experience in the world of modern technique, improv and contact was nil. After a year and a half of working with Glade, I have learned so much and danced in ways I never thought possible, for myself and in general.
The Island is my first mostly modern-based piece that I have choreographed, and while it has been a challenge to embody the vision in my head - and relay that vision to the dancers - this is definitely the piece of which I have been most proud. And it isn't even finished yet!
This has been a real learning experience and a work in progress, and I am so excited to see what the piece becomes."
